A downloadable tool for Windows, Linux, and Android

PawMan – The Actually Decent Walltaker Client

What is this?

It’s a scuffed but functional Walltaker client for people who want their desktop wallpapers to change automatically based on a walltaker.joi.how link. Works on GNOME Linux and Windows and Android. No fancy UI, no BS. Just does the job.

Features

  • Auto-updates your wallpaper with the latest image from your Walltaker link.

  • Supports GNOME (Ubuntu 24.04+, only tested on X11, Wayland is a gamble).

  • Windows support: Handles resizing, centering, and filling, so your desktop doesn’t look like hot garbage.

  • Option to download wallpapers as they change.

  • Stupid easy config. No, really.

How to Use (Linux GNOME)

  1. Open pawslut_wt.sh in your text editor.

  2. Set your Walltaker link ID (id=xxxxx). Make one here. Walltaker

  3. Choose if you want to save wallpapers (download=1 for yes, 0 for no).

  4. Save and make the script executable:

    chmod +x pawslut_wt.sh

  5. Run it:

    ./pawslut_wt.sh

  6. If you want it to run on startup, use Ubuntu's Startup Apps or slap it in a cron job (crontab -e).

Wallpapers get dumped into a wallpapers folder wherever you run the script.

How to Use (Windows)

  1. Edit config.txt – put in your Walltaker link ID, pick your resize style (none, fill, contain), set the poll time (in seconds).

    link_id = YOUR_ID_HERE
    resize = contain
    poll_time = 10

  2. Run the .exe, keep config.txt in the same folder as the .exe

  3. Wallpapers are downloaded and set automagically.

  4. Windows also has a downloader as a separate app, similar method except all your link ID's go on a new line, look at my example config.txt just do what i did swaping my numbers for yours

How to Use (Android)

1. Install the .apk

2. type in your link numbers

3. it sets your backgrounds - if you want it to run all the time then consult your manual for having android apps run without battery management (frankly its awkward and convoluted hence why i aint helping with that, I got it working automatically on my phone but my tablet refuses to let the app run all the time lol)

Requirements

For all Methods you'll need eyeballs

Linux (GNOME):

  • GNOME desktop (Ubuntu 24.04+ recommended, X11 tested, Wayland = try your luck)

  • sed

  • curl

  • Internet connection (duh)

Windows:

  • Not being dumb with the config, swap the number in config.txt to your numbers

Android:

  • install the .apk, launch it, type in the numbers in the correct fields

FAQ / Q&A

  • Q: Does it work on KDE, XFCE, or other stuff?

    • A: Maybe, I made it only GNOME right now. If you want other DE support, change the code depending on what you use and don’t bug me.

  • Q: What happens if I put the wrong ID?

    • A: It won’t work, and the Windows version will let you know you’re dumb.

  • Q: Can I make it fetch faster/slower?

    • A: Yeah, change poll_time in config.txt (Windows) or the sleep value in the .sh script (Linux).

Real Talk

This isn’t fancy software for normies. If you know how to open a text editor and run scripts, you’re good. If not, maybe touch grass or learn how to use Google.
